چکیده
Abstract Improved reproductive management allowed dairy cow pregnancies to be optimized for beef production. The objective of this sire-controlled study was characterize effects maternal genetics and the system on calf growth. Pregnancies were created with a 2 × factorial arrangement dam breed (Holstein or Jersey) mating type (artificial insemination implantation an in vitro produced embryo from commercial oocyte). Resulting calves reared ranch. Additionally, cows inseminated resulting range. Therefore, five treatments Angus Holstein (A×H; n = 19), Jersey (A×J; 22), Beef gestated by (H-ET; 18), (J-ET; 8), raised (A×B; 20). Beginning at birth, body weight, cannon circumference, forearm top width, hip height measured approximately every 28 days until 196 age. At A×J weighed least (P < 0.01). 150 age, weight greatest 0.05) among A×B calves, intermediate H-ET A×H J-ET 0.05). Morphometric differences detected between (MANOVA P Primary discriminant function scores identified having lesser values than (ANOVA 0.01); had greater less (standardized loadings -0.47, -0.48, 0.63, respectively). limited growth rate compared system. In addition, dams transmitted potential dams. Replacing increased width decreased height.

Brahman × British crossbred heifers (n = 40 and 38 heifers in yr 1 and 2, respectively) were used to evaluate the effects of calf weaning age and subsequent management system on growth and reproductive performance. On d 0, heifers were ranked by BW (89 ± 16 kg) and age (72 ± 13 d) and randomly assigned to a conventional management group that was normally weaned on d 180 (NW; n = 10 heifers annu...
